What is Vin Number?
A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is the 17-character identifier for your car, truck, or motorcycle. It looks like this: WAUYP54B01N099265, and encodes the vehicle’s manufacturer, features, and serial number No two vehicles have the same VIN, so it serves as your car’s fingerprint– this allows for all reports of accidents, title problems, insurance incidents, and more to be tracked through each vehicle’s VIN.
Where can I find VIN number?
Your vehicle’s unique Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) can be found on the title document, the vehicle registration, and on the insurance policy. The VIN could also be located at the following locations on the car itself: front engine block under the hood, front end of frame, drivers side interior cash, driver’s side door jam (inside).
Why would I need a VIN report?

Where does SnoopVin vehicle history data come from?
Information provided in a SnoopVin vehicle history report comes from hundreds of data sources. These include: state departments of motor vehicles (DMVs), auto auctions, Canadian motor vehicle departments, consumer protection agencies, auto dealers and other state agencies. All data acquired from these sources meet either the federally mandated Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) and/or other industry guidelines.
When I enter my VIN or license plate I receive a "no history found" message – what does this mean?
A “No Records Found” message means that our vehicle history data search found no information in that category at this point in time. It could mean that the car was manufactured before 1981 and it doesn’t have the vehicle information number (VIN) we need to find the answers you’re looking for. It could also mean that the car is so new that there are no records currently on file. However, please do not hesitate to contact us and we’ll look into the matter for you.

My car's VIN is wrong. Is that a problem?
In case your vehicle has a 17-digit VIN, please make sure it has been correctly and completely entered into the traffic register. All CARFAX Reports for passenger and light commercial vehicles are created from our extensive information database, which is accessed through a vehicle’s unique 17-character VIN. Cars manufactured prior to 1981 did not follow this standardized 17-character VIN format, therefore we cannot offer our service for these vehicles. All VIN numbers for cars manufactured after 1981 should consist of 17 characters (there are a few exceptions) and should not contain the letters O, Q or I.

In rare occasions Some events such some accidents are not always reported for various reasons. It’s mainly the case where vehicle owner wants to hide that fact from any future buyer. Although it’s a bad practice we as a company and our data providers can’t do much about it beside appealing to mechanics, drivers and insurance companies to report every event. Even tough, our reports are still the most accurate ones on the market.
Can I pull report for every car?
Almost every car. You can pull a report for every car manufactured after 1981 and registered at least once in the following countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia. Note that if the car is brand new, there might be a chance that there is still no data on that vehicle.
